Job Summary
As a System Administrator, you will support the Weather Message Switching Center Replacement (WMSCR) system. You will provide expertise in software requirements analysis, design, design reviews, development, software testing, integration, installation, and maintenance of complex computer systems. You will provide expertise in the development and improvement of software development processes. You may need to work with specialists from other disciplines such as hardware, software, logistic support, and testing to produce fully integrated and responsive components and systems. Interprets and analyzes complex information systems data to develop technical documentation, system diagrams, and presentation materials. You will provide expertise in system administration, managing and maintaining the operating system, configuration of user accounts, network settings and other system parameters. Responsibilities
- Provide 2nd level engineering for WMSCR
- Support system development, testing, integration, and deployment activities for WMSCR
- Provision, install, configure, monitor, and maintain Linux systems hardware and software infrastructure
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware and software upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
- Develop and manage Linux shell scripts to support application software testing and administration
- Debug software issues in Linux and Windows environments
- Possess a technical understanding of VMWare environments
- Attend system design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and any other meetings as requested to support the program and team
- Support Web Service testing using Soap UI test program
- Participate in system test and key site test activities as a tester
- May be tasked to support other systems within AJW-171
- Be on call 24/7 for site support and willing to travel
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Math, or a Bachelor’s degree in another technical field with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science and twelve (12) years of related work experience in a computer science or math field OR
- Master’s degree in any field of study with a minimum of thirty semester hours of either undergrad or grad study in combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science and nine (9) years of related work OR
- PhD or Doctoral in a related field with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours of either undergrad or grad study in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science
Technical Proficiencies
- Required
- Strong understanding of Unix/Linux Operating Systems
- Knowledge of VMware virtual environment and Linux shell scripting
- Solid understanding of IP network technologies and software tools for performance monitoring and troubleshooting
- Technical understanding of systems, databases, networking, and computing environments
- Knowledge of the following:
- Server operations, data communications, and systems analysis
- Networking, cloud computing, and enterprise system architecture
- Network security issues, policies, and implementation techniques
- Software programming experience in languages used for NAS and NAS support systems, which may involve C, C++, Java, XML, and SQL
- Familiarity with the following:
- Interfacing databases to client-side interfaces
- Object-oriented programming techniques, client/server development, cross-browser development
- Unix/Linux skills maybe require
- Possess a technical understanding of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Java Message Service (JMS), Web Services (NOT Web Page Development), Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) Communication Protocol
- Understanding of IP addressing and configurations for all networks (Mission Support and FNTB), established and available subnet of addresses if available
- Able to read, decipher, and troubleshoot XML files and WSDLs
This position requires work to be performed at the William J Hughes Technical Center and may require travel to airport locations around the USA when scheduling dictates or at management discretion. Compensation: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
